A Heart for Mission
(The role of a Filipino Ministry in Singapore: A primer on the proposed Filipino Church) Why a separate Filipino Church? Why go for separate worship services when the church facilities for worship in Balesteir Road Church are first-rate, adequate, and convenient enough? Why exchange the steamship of suitable worship at Balestier for a rickety boat of a full Filipino-congregational service? Are these not questions that are bereft of the real mission of the church? Is convenient church worship from Sabbath to Sabbath the be-all and end-all of an Adventist Christian? The Filipino Ministry, as the Balestier Road Church, has not been established in ...
Beyond time and fellowship
Time is gold, so goes an old adage. But this has not been the case to many. Complacency as regards time becomes a daily misgiving. This is also true to man’s outlook on the value of fellowship. The song, “No man is an island,” speaks out the truth about man’s need to associating and fellowshipping. For in fellowshipping it allows us to understand each other’s behavior and welcomes individual differences. On Sabbath, March 21, these aspects of life were well outlined by the Filipino Ministries of SDA Balestier Church. During the Sabbath School, discussions ...
Filipino Ministry Celebrates Heart’s Day with “Him”
For many, heart's day is a day of romance, exchange of "I love you's" and cheesy love notes. Filipino Ministry (FM) did not just have their heart's day celebrated with love but also with overwhelming inspiration from the Lord. The day started with a skit in Sabbath School presented by bros. Billy Lim, Adrian Zara, and sis Sheila Amora, in a cozy-fine-dinning-date setting. It explained the the purity of Jesus' love to human as he sacrificed His body and blood to save sinners vis-a-vis the love we share to our partners here on earth. Later after lunch, what could have been ...
Team building activity prepares FM members for new church’s establishment
While everyone was celebrating Chinese New Year, the Filipino Ministry spearheaded by its social committee held a team building activity on Monday, January 26 where 46 members together with their families participated. A hike to Mount Faber Park at 7:00 in the morning started the group’s day. This led them to this popular tourist destination where they saw the panoramic view of the southern part of Singapore. Midway to their destination the hikers took a short rest to hold a devotional program with FM member Dario Nicol, as speaker. “The Christian Journey is a matter of choice. Some chose to avoid ...
Christmas celebration—a mix of cries and laughter!
A day to reminisce joys, fun and cries! A day memorable for the Filipino Ministry (FM) of Balestier Adventist Church as they come for a year-end celebration! December 27 was indeed superimposing in each FM member’s mind when the group flashbacked their 2008 memories—one of which was the year’s retreat that was dominated by the theme, “Maligamgan ka ba?” (Are you lukewarm?) The departures of many members from Singapore were not happy occasions, but the joys attending the baptisms of Gigi Dalman, Joy Diesto and Sheila Amora dwarfed those sad moments. After they were baptized on December 6 by ...
Three Accepts Jesus Christ
Three young Filipinos were baptized into the Adventist faith on December 6, 2008. They are among the many Filipinos working in Singapore. Pastor Chan officiated the baptism during the divine worship program and were warmly welcomed by the congregation of Balestier Adventist church to the family. During their presentation to the church membership, the new members were given bouquets and some tokens as simple remembrance from their new church family. The celebration continued until the AY program were each of them happily shared their personal testimony of how they decided to become one of our faith. Sheila Amora, one of the 3 ...
