SDA Filipino Ministry Ends the Year in Fun and Laughter
There is nothing more fun and exciting in ending the year than a wacky social fellowship. Filipino Seventh Day Adventists (SDAs) in Singapore just had one. Last December 19 evening, the Filipino Ministry (FM) organized a “fellowship-slash-year-end-gathering” and enjoyed moments of wholesome laughter, jokes, sitting beside friends and loved ones.
Everybody was part of the event’s success. The first segment was of course, filling of the stomachs followed by indoor games for the kids facilitated by Joel Prieto. After which was the main program. Norman Fernandez and Ervin Ramos were the masters of ceremony acting out in the Balitang Kutsero. Their wit and jokes kept the whole affair alive and laughter-filled. The active participation of the four Adventist Youth (AY) groups of the FM, all dressed in their group colors, served as the highlight of the event. Each group rendered a well-prepared presentation depicting this year’s theme “Tatak FM”.
Group 1, whose official color was yellow, courageously satired some well known personality of FM, such as “Chairwoman” Sheila Pulmones, “Music Director” (a.k.a. “Mr. Maestro”) Ervin Ramos, “Gallant and Generous” Larry Navarro, “Totoy-Bibo” Mimi De Leon, “Captivating” Nieva Gomez and more. The message of the presentation was clear, though very much diversified in the end each member’s personality will harmonize for the achievement of one goal for the FM.
Group 2 on the other hand, clad in their blue attires, rendered a battle of the “brainless” quiz show. “Brainless” it may had been it depicted that laughter is an essential ingredient in the Ministry to relieve stresses and loosen anxieties.
Group 3 painted the event red with their group color. Their presentation was a bit of melodramatic vis-a-vis the slapstick gestures and script. It was an adaptation of the “Marimar” phenomenon that swept the whole Philippines during the previous decade. What made it more interesting were the people who portrayed “Thalia” and “Sergio” who are true-to-life couple, Sheila and Ian.
Do you see yourself in the red carpet? Waving to fans? This was the concept of Group 4. Everything was so regal – from the participants who were dressed up in purple, to the trophies given. The presentation was packaged in a movie awards night concept and those who were awarded really deserved it.
At the end, it was Group 1 who brought home the “beef bacon”. The award given to the winning group was just an icing on the cake and was not even thought or longed for. What mattered was everybody bonded, laughed and fellowshipped in fun.
Special thanks should be extended to those who rendered special numbers along the way, the caroling of the newly organized choir, Solus Deus, the song rendition of Reynaldo Padilla, and Kuya Kyle’s impromptu dance. FM appreciates the coming of locals like Pastor Chan and family and brother John Cheang and family and etc.
Before the program ended, FM presented “Para Kay Bro” video clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4rXTMxToew), an adaptation of a Philippine Network Christmas jingle. The message of the video is parallel to what FM is treading. While we are confronted with so many tsunami-high challenges, we still hanging on, keeping the faith and giving glory to our Creator.
